MISTAKES TO AVOID
Not doing research properly
Understand your processes, task volumes, and tools before building. This is often the hardest part. Many businesses don’t have a clearly defined process because staff work differently. Automation requires a standard process to slot into. Researching your systems and their limitations upfront is essential.
Improper planning
Skipping mapping, unclear triggers, or outputs. Plan, plan, plan. Know how you’re going to solve every step before building. Otherwise, you’ll hit roadblocks where tasks simply aren’t possible with your current systems.
Not accounting for every possibility
Edge cases, exceptions, error handling. Even if 99% of cases work, if edge cases break the system, your automation doesn’t work. For example, in recruitment, if one CV has 1,000 past jobs, can your system handle it? Automation must cover extremes to guarantee reliability.
Failing to review automations as processes change
Systems evolve, and automations can break. If you change when you contact people, update documents, or switch systems, your automations must adapt too. You need a process to review and update regularly.
